The baby seal's mother was only a few feet away behind the camera, according to the last sentence in the paragraph written just above the video. To me also it seemed like the baby seal was about to cry; it broke my heart. After watching the video, I was relieved once I read the paragraph just above it and found out that his mother was just a few feet away.
