British Army Lance Corporal Liam Tasker, 26, and his bomb-sniffing Springer spaniel, Theo, saved countless lives in Afghanistan detecting Taliban roadside bombs and weapons caches. Unfortunately, Tasker was killed by insurgents, and Theo, who survived the firefight, died of a seizure soon after. Animals experts say it’s not incorrect to describe Theo’s death as from a broken heart. He was posthumously honored with the Dickin Medal, Britain’s highest award for bravery by animals.
