On that terrible September 11, 2001, heroes came by foot, taxi, fire truck — and boat. “Boatlift,” a powerful documentary narrated by Tom Hanks, tells the perhaps lesser known but no less epic story of how brave volunteers saw a need and organized themselves to evacuate half a million people from Lower Manhattan the day the towers fell.
The film, produced and directed by Eddie Rosenstein, Eyepop Productions, Inc. , premiered at the 9/11 Tenth Anniversary Summit: Remembrance/Renewal/Resilience in Washington, which kicked off a national movement to foster community and national resilience in the face of future crises.
